MetroTAP, under the artistic direction of David Covington was born out of collaboration between David Covington and faculty of Metropolitan Fine Arts Center. Metro Tap’s mission is to preserve and promote the traditional American art form of rhythm tap in addition to exploring new avenues for the future of tap dance, with emphasis on emotion, innovative choreography, and finely tuned dance moves.
David Covington, director/choreographer, started his performance career tapping all over the US with a national tour of Tap Dogs. Other tap credits include the 2002 Winter Olympics, the 2005 Kennedy Center Gala, Mack and Mabel (Signature Theatre), Rhythmicity (Tappening), and a special appearance in Alice and Wonderland (Weinberg Center). He is a master class instructor of all tap levels and tap dance choreographer.
MetroTAP makes its home at the Metropolitan Fine Arts Center, in Alexandria, VA.
